The Cross Keys

1 Lawrence Street, Chelsea, SW3

The Cross Keys of Lawrence Street, is a fine old Chelsea landmark, close to the river, whose original lease, dates back to 1765. The name derives from a common sign in Christian heraldry, symbolizing the keys which Jesus gave to St Peter, in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. It was with this in mind, that co-owner and designer, Rudy Weller, famous for The Horses of Helios & The Three Graces, in Piccadilly Circus, created his "magical kingdom"!

"Adorned with original artworks too numerous to catalogue, The Cross Keys is a kind of haute couture of pub design, a Vivienne Westwood, a true one off"- The Publican Newspaper, March 1999. The Cross Keys was runner up in the Publican Award Ceremony in March 1999. It has been nominated by the Evening Standard as one of London's top ten venues, and most recently in ES Magazine (10th March 2000) David Linley is quoted as saying that he had his "most memorable night out" at "the Cross Keys, which is a fantastic gastro-pub in Chelsea".
